The M42 is a smart motorway near me. Where do I stop if there is no hard shoulder?
Make for the next emergency area if your vehicle is still moving, or leave at the nearest junction. The emergency areas are marked with orange surfacing and a blue sign with an SOS phone. If you cannot reach one and stop in a live lane, keep your seatbelt on, hazards on, and call 999 before anyone else.
Can you recover from the M42 junctions around Solihull and the M40 interchange?
Yes. We cover the M42 corridor and its junctions day and night for cars, vans and light commercial vehicles. Give us the junction number and the direction you were travelling, plus the marker post if you can see one. From there we can take the vehicle home, to a garage, or onward anywhere in the UK.
